I have more icons on the way, but evidently not the head space to finish them. Have these instead:

1. Reply to this post with "UNICORNS", and I will pick five of your icons.
2. Make a post (including the meme info) and talk about the icons I chose.
3. Other people can then comment to you and make their own posts.
4. This will create a never-ending cycle of icon glee.

[livejournal.com profile] txduck  chose for me:

Credit for this one goes soley to [livejournal.com profile] tejas . It comes from a line in her 'In The Company of Men' where I think Daniel (?) envisions the Stargate in place of clocks in Dali's Persistence of Memory.

My Atlantis OTP and the two characters I could actually stand. Much love for Weir, she was my favourite and well, after season 3... *sigh* And dear emotionally unavailable Shep... *pets* :P

Smiling Teal'c is smiling! XD I just wanted a smiling Teal'c icon. :) This one is from my episode batch for Family.

Recently the reconstructed and digitally remastered version of Metropolis was released and it inspired me to *finally* make some Metropolis icons.

RDA love <3 Gotta adore a man who doesn't want Thor to miss out on the lovin' *g*

From [info]campylobacter , put your iTunes on shuffle and answer these poignant Stargate SG-1 & SGA related questions!

Don't forget to add your own question at the end so the meme can grow!

Wherein Rodney is allergic to Russian lesbians... what?  )
magnavox_23: (mallozzikilled)
I've seen this one around... I've also written a lot of clichés... :P

Bold the clichés you have written, and italicise those you've considered writing.

All the horrors and wonders of fan fic combined... )

I've seen this meme around my flist so I thought I'd give it a go. *sifts through 6 years worth of fic*

Five ways in which you know a fan fic was written by me:

1. It's damn short.

2. It's more often than not Jack/Daniel slash or in more recent years Daniel/Vala ship.

3. There is more dialogue than description of the setting.

4. Ambiguous endings.

5. It's angst or humour (or what I loosely regard as humour :P).

Day 30 - Saddest character death

John Crichton's death (Farscape)

Again this falls back on the epicness that was Farscape, this John's death was totally shattering. Claudia Black was amazing in this scene and Ben Browder's little gasps of breath and shudders as he dies are very realistic. These two just know how to eat away at you inside. :P

It was around the same time, I think within months of Daniel's death in Stargate by the same means - radiation poisoning also. And while that was a pretty important point in Stargate, at the time I wasn't involved in the fandom and was more of a Farscape fan (sorry SG peeps).

There was little solace in the fact that this was the John who had essentially stole away with Aeryn, leaving the other aboard Moya. Aeryn had finally gotten to the point where she had regained enough of her 'humanity' in order to pursue a relationship with John and it was so quickly ripped from her that it takes another year and a half for the other John to bring her through the fog.

Ho damn, I made it through the whole 30 days!
In the words of John Crichton, can I get a hell yeah! XD

Day 29 - Current TV show obsession

Sanctuary

I saw the free webisodes when they first came out, and while I was impressed with the graphics, the story sounded a little horror movie of the week to me. Then the series came along and we all know how horrid Australian FTA tv is with sci fi, so I sprung for the DVDs before it ever aired here. Smitten from the get go.

I adore this show so much. It strikes a really nice balance between character building and plot, neither is lacking. It does smack of Stargate writing in places, but I can overlook that. It is a brilliant show in terms of the representation of women in the medium and for that I cannot sing Amanda Tapping's praises enough. Helen Magnus is an amazing character who is everything we have been wanting in a female heroine for years. She is complex, she is funny, she is strong, she is broken, she is whole.

All of the characters have interesting relationships with each other. I loved the closeness of Helen and Will in season 2. He knows her well enough to call her on her crap, and she respects him for it. Henry and Bigfoot going off hanging out, Kate's steady inclusion in the group (I've noticed fandom seems to pair her off with Will most of the time, and yeah that was encouraged in Pavor Noctumus, but I see her moreso with Henry :P). The messed up relationship between Helen and John intrigues me the most and I am dearly hoping that will be brought up again in season 3.

The Rules:
1. Pick a character, pairing, or fandom you like.
2. Turn on your music player and put it on random/shuffle.
3. Write a drabble/ficlet related to each song that plays. You only have the time frame of the song to finish the drabble; you start when the song starts, and stop when it's over. No lingering afterwards!
I totally cheated and finished all of these... somewhat. :P
4. Do ten of these, then post them.

Pairing: Jack/Daniel
Ratings: PG to NC-17
Notes: [livejournal.com profile] quarryquest did an awesome quick beta on these as my spelling/grammar and general grasp of the English language is atrocious. Titles link to the songs for your perusal.

I haven't written Jack/Daniel for a whole year! )

Day 28 - First TV show obsession

Xena Warrior Princess

I loved this show when I was a kid. Every Saturday, my sister and I would sneak off into the dining room and watch the little 34cm piece of shit Samsung tv that constantly broke down, while everyone else was watching Hey Hey It's Saturday (see? we had better taste, even back then :P)

She was the first kick ass woman that our generation had. The action, comedy and mythology were all so exciting. I didn't realise the show was so corny until I saw it again as a teenager, lol. Nor the lesbian subtext - I was blind, but now I see! XD

And who could forget JOXER THE MIGHTY! )

Now it's stuck in your head. :P

Day 27 - Best pilot episode

The Pilot (Friends)

What I really liked about Friends was that the character's personalities were already meshed out beforehand and the pilot was essentially a back story episode with a plot that took all of 5 minutes to fill. Rachel runs out on her wedding day, moves in with Monica. That's it. But these characters invited you to know where they came from and that really paid off later down the line, giving them such rich histories right off the bat.

And hey, the clothes and hair are a bit of 90's nostalgia. :P

Day 26 - OMG WTF? Season finale

Torchwood: Children of Earth, Day 5

I actually quite liked this series and the majority of the last episode. It's the last scene that bugs me. Jack disappears for a few months, then meets up with Gwen and hubby in the middle of nowhere only to disappear again. Um, what?

I get it, he was all distraught over Ianto and killing his grandson, but that's a bit of a delayed reaction.

I do hope season 4 (if and when) explains this to some extent.

Day 25 - A show you plan on watching (old or new)

$#*! My Dad Says

I adore William Shatner, and I saw the trailer for this show a few months back, so I think it'll be worth checking out. I am very picky when it comes to new shows, but I've recently been getting back into sitcoms with Modern Family and Big Bang Theory.

Old shows I have been meaning to catch up on, slowly but surely...but still quite slowly are Bones and Supernatural. I am liking Bones, Supernatural is a bit slow for me.

I will also have to check out Facing Kate too, I hear that David Smith character is quite the looker. :P

Day 24 - Best quote

Fran: "Do you know nothing about modern culture, Bernard? Beckham, Posh, Pokemon..."

Bernard: "Pacman. It's pronounced Pacman!" (Black Books)

This is just one example of the many great lines in this series. There are many more which I still use today, even though the show ended in 2004, I am still surrounded by fans. :P This one in particular really speaks to Bernard's character though. He's so thoroughly out of touch with everything, and yet his answer is so endearing and he thinks he is right, without even pondering what the hell those other things Fran mentions are.

Quotes I like to use often from Black Books are "I dunno, I'm not Wonder Woman!" having been asked a question I can't answer, "Whores will have their trinkets" upon making extravagant purchases/faux judging other's extravagant purchases and "Roweeeeennnaaaa!" for all sorts of random times. :P

Day 23 - Most annoying character

Richard Woosley (Stargate SG-1/Stargate: Atlantis)

I know some people liked him, but I couldn't stand this character. I thought he was an ass who was in way over his head the entire time, no matter what he was doing. He treated people who knew what they were doing like dirt and had a general authoritative arrogance about him which was completely unappealing.

There were little snippets here and there of his 'good nature' such as Inauguration, but for the most part his decisions were not good - The Shroud, and for me, he was just a completely irritating character to watch - The Scourge, The Return I & II.

Day 22 - Favorite series finale

Unending (Stargate SG-1)

Very few of the shows I like actually receive a proper finale, and I am so glad Stargate did... a few times. :P Unending gave us a what if reality - a peek into the future for our characters, but it also gave us an open story so they could essentially continue on forever. :P Making it about the characters was wonderful and kept true to everything we had seen of them before, now taken out of that work environment (for the most part).

I do wish they could have brought Jack back for the finale though. C'mon, he missed saying goodbye to Thor!

Full Circle and Lost City were great finales also, Moebius I could take or leave even thought it had its moments.
