OMG, I Found Jaffa Cakes!

And they taste like crap! XD Ever since getting into the Stargate fandom, I heard people go on about Jaffa cakes, mostly in the UK. But, I was in Woolies yesterday, and there they were. I'd describe the taste as a Terry's Chocolate Orange covered in mold. The jelly-like bit in the middle? WTF? Seriously, that is the most random thing ever. LOL!

Anyways, in following [livejournal.com profile] starting_gate 's ideas on positive distraction, I did a quick sketch of the Jack/Elizabeth hug from Return part 2. It's a bit scruffy in places, and I'm not completely happy with Lizzie's hair, but I did it like 2am last night, coz I couldn't sleep. Click on the pic for the full size image.

*g* I haven't seen this the episode, yet, so I don't know this scene, but I like the way his eyes, forehead, and hair turned out. I like the detail you put into her hair, also. This is a fun drawing to look at. I have got to see this now, so I can figure out why he has that expression on his face. Heh.

LOL... love your description of the Jaffa Cakes. I'll be sure to steer clear. ;-)

The expression is interesting. It's almost as if he's making sure no one is watching them hug. He was all rigid when she first grabbed him, but then he relaxes into it and hold her back. And then he starts looking around, even though there's no one around. Is it proper for a General to go around hugging people? It's interesting for me (I love analysing Jack)that in the easier years he was quite tactile, but with responsibility, rank and such, he appears far more rigid and closed off. I think he secretly enjoyed someone reaching out to him for a change.

You know, that is quite odd. The fact that early Jack touched, alot and he didn't later. That said, I absolutely loved the hair ruffle from 'The Shroud'. And the fact that he did it right there in front of God and everybody? Shows me he still isn't quite as distant from Daniel as he probably should be.
Compare that expression to the ones he has while he's hugging Daniel, first from 'Serpent's Lair' which was very public and 'Forever in a Day' which was very private. He doesn't seem to care who sees him hugging Daniel.

It's Daniel! Who could stay away? :P

I think in The Serpent's lair hug, he was quite carried away by the moment, there's that unmasked genuine glee on his face. Under normal circumstances, I don't see him acting so exuberant. As for Forever In A Day (Which I still can't figure if it was all in Daniel's head or not)I put Jack's initial reluctance down to a mixture of Sam being there, and him being aware of how he should act as a CO in front of her, and of Daniel knowing just how close Jack feels about him. This was also expressed during the scene where Daniel was packing up his office.

I think nowadays, Jack's pretty comfortable in showing his affection for Daniel in front of SG-1, but I don't see him letting go anywhere too public.

See, I keep forgetting about those part of FiaD being in Daniel's head. Because in that scene where Daniel is packing up his office, he calls Sam 'Carter' and he would never call her by her last name.
I'm watching the movie and even then Jack was a bit more tactile with Daniel than he probably should have, he leaned in very close when he was fingering the eye of Ra pendant. Then, of course, Ra kind of chucked Daniel under the chin right before he ripped the pendant off his neck. So maybe it wasn't just Jack who couldn't keep his hands to himself?

Great drawing!! I loved this scene. ^.^

Thankyou! I love the scene too (obviously :P)

Thanks :D

That's freakin' awesome! It takes talent to be able to do that willy nilly in the middle of the night, you know? I used to be able to draw like that when I took art class in high school, but I'm out of practice. That and I used a grid pattern to do it, heh. I think you got Rick's face bang on. *nods*
Also? I had Jaffa Cakes once. I went to the local Scottish Gaems one year and I needed a snack for my dad to take his pill and Icouldn't resist it cause of the name.
I guess I didn't think they were so bad because I was so $%#$%$# hungry at the time, LOL. But you're right, the jelly bit in the middle is TOTALLY random.

[identity profile] magnavox-23.livejournal.com 2007-08-16 09:09 am (UTC)(link)
I've found drawing with a tablet way better than sketching with pencils or charcoal mostly because I am a really messy artist. I hated grid patterns with a passion in school, I could draw just fine without them, stupid regimented art class, teacher failed my ass too.

The Jaffa cakes were sitting on my desk since the weekend, I didn't have the heart to throw them out...c'mon, Jaffa! :P Then mum came in and chucked the packet in the bin, hehe...

Hello,

Here via your post on [livejournal.com profile] elizabeth_jack :) I just wanted to say that is one fantastic sketch! The expression on Rick's face is exactly right and frankly if that's a quick sketch at 2am, I'd love to see what you could do with plenty of time to spend on your drawing...

Random aside: I used to love Jaffa cakes. Until I went to an SG1 con as a poor student & ended up having to live on them for the entire weekend, because I couldn't afford anything more at London hotel prices. Haven't touched them since!

Wow, thankyou so much! I have stared at that man's face way too many times already :p He's been the subject of my artworks more than I can count. Hehe...

I would be totally sick if I had to live on Jaffa caked for an entire weekend! That's amazing!

[identity profile] cyberchezza.livejournal.com 2007-08-23 12:06 pm (UTC)(link)
You're welcome! :)

I have stared at that man's face way too many times already :p Who hasn't? :D

He's been the subject of my artworks more than I can count. And this is a bad thing why? ;)

I would be totally sick if I had to live on Jaffa caked for an entire weekend! That's amazing! Lol. More like desperation! If I remember correctly, the hotel was charging 12 pounds for burger & chips :s

Btw, would you be willing to let me use your sketch in an LJ icon? I will credit, of course...

Wow, that's like a bagillion AUS dollars, lol! Seriously, that's rediculous! Extortion much? ;P

Btw, would you be willing to let me use your sketch in an LJ icon? I will credit, of course...

Of course you can ^_^

[identity profile] cyberchezza.livejournal.com 2007-08-29 05:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow, that's like a bagillion AUS dollars, lol!

From my trip to your lovely country back in April, I'm guessing about 30? ;)

Seriously, that's rediculous! Extortion much? ;P

Considering I was able to get brekkie from the Hungry Jacks (random aside: *how* amusing is that name in a fandom context, lol) outlet in Wynyard station central Sydney for 6 dollars? Serious extortion! :D

Of course you can ^_^

Thankees! I sense a spot of icon-making in my near future...

Sounds about right.

Hehe. Hungry Jack's sells the most horrible food in the universe. I'm sorry you had to suffer through that :P

Eh, I've tasted worse :P I was more disturbed by the crazy guy muttering to himself in the corner

The deli in the Victoria Building was far nicer tho :D

& good morning, btw!

[identity profile] magnavox-23.livejournal.com 2007-08-29 09:08 pm (UTC)(link)
hehe, morning! And a good...I'm guessing sometime in the afternoon to you too! (I'm terrible with time zones :P)

This is in Sydney right? (Sorry, I've only ever driven through) But yeah, there are quite a few crazies down there. *smiles at Sydney-sider friends :P*

[identity profile] cyberchezza.livejournal.com 2007-08-29 09:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Close ;) It's about quarter past ten in the evening here (bedtime soon so if I suddenly disappear, that's why *g*)

This is in Sydney right?
Yep! :)

Lolol. Yep, again! :D
