See, the thing about fan fic is...
Apr. 15th, 2007 10:16 pmI get an idea, it swims around and around in my head (did I mention it was filled with liquified goo?) as I fill in all the blanks, what emotions I want behind it, what I want/hope the reader will get out of it...and then I go to write...and the words don't come out the way I want. If I could paint y'all a fic, I would. This has always frustrated me as a 'writer'. The feeling, the sense behind a fic is clear in my mind, but finding that bridge between there and the written word...well, it doesn't seem to be on my map.
I'm starting to think I'm getting too tied up in...something. If I have to write for say an informative essay, no worries, if I have to write an opinionative essay...ahhh...slight trouble there. So I'm starting to think it is a confidence issue. Facts, facts are easy, I didn't come up with them, they already exist, so I can't be judged on those, but, the clincher with fan fiction, it that it's entirely yours. Sure, you have the characters and background of the fandom as a starting base, but the plot, the character's voices, all the little nuances, are yours. I've been writing fan fic for just over 2 years now, and while I think I've definitely improved in some areas, I just wish I could find the words...
Because of this, and having recently come out of a rather dry spell with regard to writing fic, I've decided to start small again (not that my stuff was ever that large) and concentrate on drabbles and such. Probably with Stargate first as I'm most familiar with it, and I'll see where it goes.
On that note, wrote my first drabble tonight, got the idea while coughing my head off (damn weather changes so quickly). Just a little bit of Daniel/Vala, rated...oh, lets say PG-15 to be safe, no spoilers.
I'm not quite sure where I was going with that one...*shakes head*
