It's a LIMS contest, which stands for Last Icon Maker Standing contest. All the competitors sign up at the beginning of a round and submit an icon per week for as long as they're in the competition. Each week, we vote and the makers of the icons deemed to be the least technically proficient are eliminated from the pool. It goes until only one person is left.
The value for the maker is in the anonymous voting since it requires that voters state the reason for their votes. In the best of all possible worlds, it inspires makers to be experimental and improve their icon making skills.
