Novelist Ernest Pratt heads to Colorado to clear up a little arrest warrant matter and is quickly thrown in jail. Folks there believe he is Nicodemus Legend. Do gooder, vagabond, hero... and disturber of livestock. Ernest quickly discovers Janos Bartok, scientist and actuator of Ernest's literary fancies, has brought his character to life with smoke and mirrors... ok smoke, not so much with the mirrors. Together they face off against the evil, rich, and chestly, Vera Slaughter, who wants to take land from the farmers that they already took! Ernest plays the hero and saves the girl (an actual girl), and is then blackmailed by his publisher and Bartok's sense of justice into sticking around...
